Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after DL Josiah Sharma
Kaliq Lockett, WR
The next big announcement to watch in the next couple of weeks on the recruiting trail for Texas fans will be on Aug. 7 for the elite five-star Sachse (TX) wide receiver priority Kaliq Lockett.
The top 20 ranked wide receiver recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking will decide between the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas in two weeks.
Since five-star Duncanville (TX) wide receiver Dakorien Moore committed to Oregon over Texas in early July, Lockett has become a uber-top priority for the Longhorns staff in the 2025 class late this summer. It sounds like Moore ending up at Oregon instead of Texas probably helped the Longhorns' chances with both Lockett and five-star Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin wide receiver target Jaime Ffrench.
If Texas can secure commitments from both Lockett and Ffrench (who decides on Aug. 30), that would still be a massive wide receiver haul for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class. Texas probably was never going to get all three wide receivers, including Moore, Ffrench, and Lockett, committed in the 2025 class by the signing period in early December.
From everything that's been reported surrounding Lockett's recruitment in the last couple of weeks, I still feel very good about Texas's chances to win this recruitment come early August.
