Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after EDGE Smith Orogbo
Texas football started off its move to the SEC with a bang on the recruiting trail on July 1, landing a commitment from the highly touted four-star Houston (TX) Alief Hastings edge rusher Smith Orogbo.
Momentum going again for Texas football for 2025?
The talented and athletic edge rusher Orogbo committed to Texas over the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Washington Huskies when he announced on Monday afternoon. Orogbo is a big win for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class, especially since this was largely a battle against the rival Oklahoma for the last couple of weeks.
Orogbo gives the Longhorns their second blue-chip edge rusher commit in the 2025 class, joining Texarkana (TX) Pleasant Grove high-four-star Lance Jackson. Texas has recruited the EDGE position at an extremely high level in the past year or so.
Between portal and high school recruiting, Texas has landed high-caliber EDGE commits like UTSA transfer Trey Moore, Duncanville (TX) 2024 five-star Colin Simmons, and Allen (TX) 2024 four-star Zina Umeozulu.
Getting Orogbo in the boat in the 2025 class could close the book on EDGE recruiting for the Longhorns in this cycle. But more key decisions are to come for the Longhorns in the next few days this week.

Nick Townsend, TE
Texas's top priority at tight end on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class this summer is the touted Spring (TX) Dekaney four-star Nick Townsend. The Longhorns have been the trendy pick in this recruitment since Townsend had a successful official visit to Austin a couple of weekends ago.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were the presumed leader in the race to land a commitment from Townsend entering summer official visits. But Texas made a sizable move with Townsend during his late-June official visit, checking many of the boxes he was looking for during his trip.
Townsend is set to announce his decision on July 8. Horns247 reports that Texas continues to feel optimistic about their chances to land Townsend's commitment next Monday.
