Decision date: Aug. 24

Texas is in a battle on the recruiting trail with LSU and the Texas A&M Aggies in the race to land a commitment from the No. 1 safety recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking on Saturday.

Five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams has been one of the most hotly contested recruitments in the 2025 class for this summer and even dating back to the spring on the trail. All five of Williams' finalist schools have looked like the favorite at one point in time in this recruitment.

LSU has really been the main competition for Texas in this battle on the recruiting trail for Williams in the late stages here before his decision in the last week or so. The Tigers have made a very strong push even within the last 72 hours in their communication with Williams late in the recruiting process.

But I don't think it will be enough for the Tigers to overtake the Longhorns entering Williams' decision date on Aug. 24.

Mike Roach of 247Sports reported on Aug. 23 (paid content) that "all signs point to Texas winning out for Williams" on Saturday evening when he makes his decision.

Landing a commitment from Williams would be a massive momentum-booster for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class entering the fall. If Williams does commit to Texas tomorrow, he would be the second blue-chip to jump in the boat in this class in as many days.

He could also be one of multiple five-star commitments that the Longhorns get in the 2025 class before the end of August, with Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench set to announce on Aug. 30.
