Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after RB James Simon

Texas's recruiting momentum is picking up for 2025 a couple of weeks before official visits get underway.

Caleb Chester, CB

Among the top priority cornerback recruits in-state in the 2025 class, Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph really likes what Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall three-star Caleb Chester brings. Texas has been a major player in Chester's recruitment since last offseason.

Joseph and staff have done a nice job making Chester feel like he is a big-time priority for them in this defensive back class for 2025. Chester and the elite five-star from Conroe (TX) Dorian Brew are considered the consensus top in-state cornerback targets for Joseph and the Longhorns in the 2025 class entering the summer.

As it stands now, Texas looks to be in a slightly better spot to land Chester than it does Brew. There are more schools involved in Brew's recruitment, including some (like LSU and the Ohio State Buckeyes) that have put significant pressure on the in-state Longhorns with Brew and his family.

We've mentioned for the last couple of months on the site that Chester's decision is very likely to boil down to a classic Texas vs. Texas A&M battle on the recruiting trail. Recent reporting indicates that remains to be the case that the Longhorns and Aggies are the top two schools in the race to land a commitment from Chester, with an announcement likely coming later this summer.

The reason why I'm confident in Chester being a good candidate to be the next 2025 recruit to commit to the Longhorns is the fact that his official visit to Texas is in early June. If Texas can get him to shut down his recruitment during that June 7-9 official visit weekend, he might be the next commitment in the 2025 class after Simon.
