The grand prize safety recruit in the 2025 class that the Longhorns have been prioritizing late this summer is five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams. Texas has made up a lot of ground in this recruitment in the last month or so, since Williams made an unofficial visit to Austin for the late July pool party/BBQ bash a couple of weeks ago.

Williams announces on Aug. 24, and he'll decide between the Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas.

All five of Williams' finalist schools have been the buzzing programs in this recruitment at different points since last fall. Texas is one of the schools with the most buzz in this recruitment late this summer on the trail.

The real battle for Williams could come down to convincing him to play football instead of baseball. Williams is a top prospect for the MLB Draft. And it is a real consideration for him to pass on playing football so he can be drafted into the MLB next year.

The baseball factor has helped Texas in this recruitment, since the Longhorns hired head coach Jim Schlossnagle away from the Aggies earlier this summer. But that same factor working in Texas's favor for Williams late this summer on the recruiting trail could hurt them in the end if he hypothetically committed to the Longhorns and then ended up taking the baseball route instead of playing football on the Forty Acres.

There will be more twists and turns in Williams' recruitment up until signing day in December, when he'll be closer to having to make the decision whether he wants to play football or baseball.
