Predicting Texas's next commit after LB Jonathan Cunningham
Texas football picked up an important commitment at a key position of need in the 2025 recruiting class on July 12, landing three-star Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley linebacker Jonathan Cunningham. The athletic linebacker chose Texas over the Utah Utes and TCU Horned Frogs to become the 14th commitment in UT's 2025 class.
Who will get Texas football to 15 commitments this summer in the 2025 class?
Cunningham's commitment gives the Longhorns more depth and long-term upside at a position where they needed numbers and talent in the fold for 2025.
This caps a string of three key commitments on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns this summer. Since July 1, Texas has landed a trio of defensive commitments in the 2025 class, including Houston (TX) Alief Hastings four-star edge rusher Smith Orogbo, Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Hightower safety Kade Phillips, and Cunningham.
Momentum is starting to slowly build back up on the recruiting trail for the 2025 cycle for the Longhorns entering the late summer decisions. There is a chance that the Longhorns get 16 or 17 commitments at least in the class of 2025 by the start of the fall.
Here's a prediction of the next 2025 recruit to commit to the Longhorns after Cunningham jumped in the boat on July 12.
Nathan Tilmon, S
A top defensive back target for the Longhorns in the 2025 class who is expected to announce within the next couple of weeks is the speedy three-star Arlington (TX) Mansfield Timberview safety Nathan Tilmon. OTF's Gerry Hamilton reported on July 13 that he expects Tilmon to announce at some point early next week.
Tilmon will decide between Texas, Utah, and TCU, likely at some point by late July at the absolute latest. Utah has reportedly been making a bigger push in this recruitment over the last seven to 10 days. But Texas still looks to hold at least a slight edge over Utah and then TCU in third place in the race to land Tilmon's commitment this summer.
