One of the bigger wide receiver recruitments for the Longhorns in the 2025 class that is expected to wrap up in the near future is for the speedy and elusive Hitchcock (TX) four-star Kelshaun Johnson. The 5-foot-11 and 165-pound wideout from the Houston area is expected to announce on July 15 after having multiple dates pushed back due to Hurricane Beryl.

Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies are the two schools duking it out on the recruiting trail in the race to win Johnson's commitment. Texas A&M has held the edge over Texas recently in this recruitment, wiht the Aggies reportedly trending positively for the last few weeks.

But Texas hasn't gone away quietly here. Texas probably needs to take another one of the in-state blue-chip wide receiver targets who officially visited Austin in June to get to the requisite numbers at the position for the 2025 class this summer.

Texas is still very much in it for a pair of five-star 2025 wide receiver priorities with late summer decisions approaching in August: Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin's Jaime Ffrench and Sachse's (TX) Kaliq Lockett. Lockett is the first of these two five-star wideouts to announce, between Texas, Texas A&M, and the Alabama Crimson Tide on Aug. 7.

Ffrench is deciding between multiple schools, including the Tennessee Volunteers, Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas, and the Georgia Bulldogs on Aug. 30.

If Texas pulls off the late rally and beats out Texas A&M for Johnson's commitment, that would be a major win for the Longhorns to get wide receiver recruiting back on track for 2025.
