Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian got a huge win on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class on July 15, landing four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney tight end/athlete Nick Townsend's pledge over the Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide. Sarkisian and Jeff Banks sealed the deal with their top tight end priority recruit in the 2025 class this summer by landing Townsend's commitment on Monday afternoon.

How long until Texas football continues building 2025 momentum on the recruiting trail with another summer commit?

Assuming Texas keeps Townsend at tight end and doesn't have him play at linebacker in college, his commitment should close the book on tight end recruiting in the 2025 class entering the fall for the Longhorns.

Texas now has two tight end commitments in the 2025 class, including Townsend and Calhoun (GA) four-star Emaree Winston. Adding Townsend also gives the Longhorns 15 total commits in the 2025 class entering an important stretch of mid-to-late summer decisions on the recruiting trail.

It's now looking very likely that the Longhorns will have at least 17 commitments in the 2025 class entering the fall, with multiple announcements remaining among key targets before the end of August.

Here's a prediction of the next 2025 recruit to commit to the Longhorns after Townsend pledged on July 15.

Kelshaun Johnson, WR

The next upcoming decision to watch among key targets for the Longhorns among the June official visitors is four-star Hitchcock (TX) wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson on July 16. Johnson will decide between Texas and Texas A&M during an announcement that is expected to come on Tuesday in the late afternoon or evening.

Texas A&M has been the favorite in the race to land a commitment from Johnson for the last few weeks. But Texas has hung around along with heightened communication with the blue-chip wideout from the Houston area in the last seven or 10 days.

It sounds like Johnson has waffled back and forth between the Longhorns and Aggies in the last week or so. Texas A&M probably still holds at least a slight edge heading into Johnson's decision date on Tuesday. It also wouldn't be too surprising to see some last-minute movement here in favor of the Longhorns.
