Predicting Texas's next commit after TE Nick Townsend
Nathan Tilmon, S
A decision we're expecting to come in the next couple of weeks is three-star Arlington (TX) Mansfield Timberview safety Nathan Tilmon. Texas is trying to hold off the Utah Utes and TCU Horned Frogs in the final stretch of this recruitment for the speedy and rangy defensive back from the DFW Metroplex.
Utah has some up some pretty serious ground in the race to land a commitment from Tilmon in the last couple of weeks. Texas still looks like the frontrunner here, but Utah has pitched early playing time to Tilmon.
TCU is also trying to pitch Tilmon to stay close to home and take his talents to Fort Worth to play for the Horned Frogs.
Horns247 reports that Texas landing a commitment last weekend from three-star Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley linebacker Jonathan Cunningham over TCU and Utah has helped the Longhorns' chances to seal the deal with Tilmon in the near future. Cunningham and Tilmon are reportedly friends and stay in communication throughout the course of each other's recruitments.
Texas has been making a concerted effort to get Tilmon to shut down his recruitment in July and announce for the Longhorns. He is a valued in-state target for Blake Gideon, Terry Joseph, and the Longhorns in the 2025 class. There is a chance that he could be the next defensive prospect to commit to Texas if he follows through with an announcement at some point in the next week.
