Predicting Texas's next commit after TE Nick Townsend

Texas is favored to land multiple key blue-chip 2025 recruits in the next couple of weeks after getting 4-Star TE Nick Townsend in the boat on July 15.

Texas's top two remaining uncommitted wide receiver priorities in the 2025 class this summer are Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin's Jaime Ffrench and Sachse's (TX) Kaliq Lockett. Ffrench is set to announce on Aug. 30, and Lockett announces on Aug. 7.

There was good news for the Longhorns on the trail with their wide receiver recruiting efforts, coming from 247Sports' Mike Roach on July 15. Roach crystal-balled Lockett to Texas with a good level of confidence (seven out of 10) on Monday afternoon.

Texas has been working to fight off runs from the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida State Seminoles, and LSU Tigers on the recruiting trail for Lockett's recruitment this summer. Alabama has been the main competition for the Longhorns in this recruitment since summer official visits concluded in June.

If Texas ultimately wins this recruitment, it will be because of the strong relationships Jackson and Sarkisian have built with Lockett and his family since they really ramped up efforts here on the trail since early in the spring.

Furthermore, if the Longhorns miss out on Johnson when he announces on July 16, there's a good chance that Lockett could be the first wide receiver to commit to Texas in the 2025 class.

Lockett is part of that elite trio of wide receiver recruits in the 2025 class that Sarkisian and Chris Jackson set their sights on starting during the spring evaluation period. I still believe two of the three five-star wide receiver priorities for the Longhorns in this cycle are still in play before the end of the summer.
