Predicting Texas's next commitment after RB Rickey Stewart
Kade Phillips, S
The athletic and physical 6-foot-2 and 180-pound Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Hightower four-star defensive back Kade Phillips has emerged as a top in-state priority at safety for the Longhorns.
Since Texas offered Phillips during the spring evaluation period on Feb. 18, the Longhorns coaches have made it clear that he is a top defensive back priority for them in the 2025 class. Texas coaches have been in constant communication with Phillips in the last couple of months.
Texas likes the versatility and ranginess that Phillips brings to the table at safety. He's got experience playing at corner and safety at Fort Bend Hightower, so it makes sense that the Longhorns can see him as someone they could cross-train with the multitude of other versatile DBs on campus on the current roster.
Phillips has been a frequent visitor on campus at Texas early this offseason. This weekend is his first return trip to campus for an unofficial visit since the big Junior Day visit weekend on Jan. 20. He's also scheduled to officially visit Texas in late June.
With how much the Longhorns coaching staff has prioritized Phillips' recruitment this spring, it wouldn't surprise me to see them try to seal the deal with the blue-chip DB recruit from the Houston area in the next couple of months.
Inside Texas gave it a 75 percent chance that Texas lands Phillips' commitment in the 2025 class among the recruits currently visiting Austin this weekend.
