Predicting Texas's next transfer after LB S'Maje Burrell

Texas football still has a couple of positional needs to address in the portal this spring, along with being three players above the scholarship limit of 85.

There might not be a more loaded position group on the offensive side of the ball for the Longhorns this spring regarding depth and talent than wide receiver. Texas added three immediate impact wideouts via the transfer portal during the early-offseason portal window, including juniors Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden.

Texas has raw talent and blazing speed all over the place on the wide receiver depth chart this spring. Bond and Golden join returning Texas wideouts such as redshirt freshman Ryan Niblett and sophomore Johntay Cook II as some of the fastest players on the team.

The insane depth and talent the Longhorns have in the wide receiver room this offseason has created a ton of competition for these players to settle into their roles on the two-deep in spring ball.

Naturally, the competition and tremendous reps that the top wideouts on the two-deep are giving the Longhorns this spring make it more difficult for all of these talented guys to have a clear path to the field this fall.

Niblett is one of these speedy playmakers for the Longhorns who is put in the tough spot of having to decide whether he wants to stick around at Texas and fight to have to get on the two-deep. He is definitely talented enough to push for a starting spot at a whole bunch of other Power Five programs in the next few months.

It's really difficult to find who would be the roster attrition for Texas at wideout after this spring camp. None of the transfer additions or high school signees from the 2024 class would be likely to leave the program this early. Cook and fellow second-year wideout DeAndre Moore Jr. have also received consistent quality practice reps on the two-deep this spring camp.
