Former Texas head coach Tom Herman hired defensive coordinator Todd Orlando who was fired after a highly disappointing three seasons.

In Orlando’s first season with the Horns, Texas’ defense was stuffed to the gills with talented returners and ranked No. 14 nationally. The defense was third in the Big 12 for scoring defense and No. 1 in the conference for 3rd-down defense.

Just one season later, Texas dropped in the rankings for all three categories as the Longhorns’ third-down defense floundered.

Orlando’s last year with the Longhorns saw similar results as his second as the defense struggled to keep up with opponents both at the line and in the secondary.
