A recent Texas football offer, four-star Tyler (TX) Chapel Hill running back Rickey Stewart decommitted from the SMU Mustangs on Jan. 31. Stewart announced on his Twitter/X account on the afternoon of Jan. 31 that he is re-opening his recruitment.

This comes just a couple of weeks after Texas offered Stewart during his visit to Austin for the first big Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 20.

Texas football in a good spot for 4-Star RB Rickey Stewart after he decommits from SMU

Running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns made a big impression on Stewart during his Junior Day trip to Texas a couple of weekends ago.

He told Horns247 that the Junior Day visit to Texas was "an experience I ain't ever felt before". He's excited to continue to build the relationships with head coach Steve Sarkisian and Choice.

Stewart also mentioned that he loves the family atmosphere and culture that Texas has built within the program, specifically saying that "there's more to it instead of football".

Texas trending for Stewart after his Junior Day visit and offer

Texas has generated some serious buzz in this recruitment in the last couple of weeks. It all started when Choice visited Stewart at Chapel Hill High School in East Texas earlier this month. Choice's visit to Stewart's high school established that Texas was a serious contender in this recruitment.

The Junior Day visit and offer further established Texas as a serious threat to Stewart's commitment to SMU.

It also helps that Texas is pursuing Stewart's teammate, four-star athlete Demetrius Brisbon. Stewart and Brisbon made the Junior Day trip together to Texas on Jan. 20.

Every single forecast from the major recruiting services since Stewart received his Texas offer on Jan. 20 project his commitment to the Longhorns.
