SJSU transfer CB Jay'Vion Cole visiting Texas this week
On Texas Football's CJ Vogel reported on April 30 that Texas football is scheduled to host former San Jose State Spartans sophomore transfer cornerback Jay'Vion Cole for a visit on May 2. The report from On Texas Football was later confirmed by one from Inside Texas on Tuesday afternoon.
Texas football to host San Jose State transfer CB Jay'Vion Cole for a visit Thursday
Cole entered the NCAA Transfer Portal just before the closing of the spring window on May 1. His name officially surfaced in the transfer portal on the afternoon of April 29.
After Cole visits Texas starting on May 2, he will visit the Auburn Tigers beginning May 6. It also sounds like a visit to East Lansing to see the Michigan State Spartans is very possible for Cole in the next week or so.
Cole has also announced offers from schools like the Cincinnati Bearcats, South Florida Bulls, Houston Cougars, and Michigan State, among others.
This is Cole's second time in the transfer portal in as many offseasons. He transferred to San Jose State after spending his freshman season at Cal Poly in the FCS.
Cole was one of the best cornerbacks in the Group of Five last season. The 5-foot-10 and 175-pound corner from Northern California was the ninth highest-graded CB in the Group of Five in 2023 and the 20th-best in the entire FBS (per PFF).
At San Jose State last season, Cole registered 38 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, four quarterback pressures, 15 defensive stops, 10 pass breakups, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
Texas targeting CB depth with impact transfers late this spring
Texas has shown interest in adding an immediate impact corner to replace the depth lost by junior Terrance Brooks entering the portal last week. Brooks is Texas's only player who started double-digit games last season to enter the transfer portal this offseason.
Cole and former Arizona Wildcats All-Pac-12 standout Tacario Davis are Texas's top two corner targets with the spring portal window closing this week.
