Texas basketball and head coach Rodney Terry discovered their fate for the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday (March 17). Texas gets the seven-seed in the Midwest Region for the Round of 64 against the winner of the 10-seed play-in game.
Texas basketball gets the seven-seed in the Midwest Region in Charlotte on Selection Sunday
The Colorado State Rams and Virginia Cavaliers will duke it out to decide who the 10-seed will be that faces the Longhorns in the Round of 64 in Charlotte.
There are some familiar faces in the Midwest Region on Texas's side of the bracket for the NCAA Tournament. If Virginia beats Colorado State in the play-in game for the 10-seed, redshirt junior Texas center, Kadin Shedrick will face his former team that he transferred from last offseason.
And if the Longhorns advance past the Round of 64, the two-seed Tennessee Volunteers and former UT head coach Rick Barnes would likely be waiting for them in the Round of 32. Tennessee got the two-seed in the Midwest Region against the 15-seed Saint Peter's.
The one-seed in the Longhorns region is the Big Ten regular season champion Purdue Boilermakers. The Midwest Region also has two other teams from the Big 12, the four-seed Kansas Jayhawks and nine-seed TCU Horned Frogs.
The Longhorns make the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row. Texas has also made the tourney for the 30th time since 1989.
Texas has won at least one NCAA Tournament game in the last three postseasons. Last year, Terry and the Longhorns made a deep postseason run to the Elite Eight for the first time in over a decade.

I am shocked we got a 7 seed. Was expecting a 9

Many were expecting the Longhorns to be an eight or a nine-seed entering Selection Sunday. Texas's resume was viewed favorably by the selection committee.
So a first round loss in the conference tournament did absolutely nothing to Texas’ seed line. Many people thought they needed TWO wins to move up to a 7 and they were already there. #HookEm
