Texas baseball won its fifth straight series in Big 12 play, taking two games out of three this weekend against the UCF Knights on the road at John Euliano Park in Orlando, FL. Head coach David Pierce's squad clinched the series with a 10-7 win over UCF in the finale on May 12.

The win over the Knights on Sunday afternoon moves the Longhorns' record on the season to 32-20 (17-10 Big 12). While Texas was technically eliminated from the race for the Big 12 regular season title this weekend with the loss to UCF on May 11, the series win helps with seeding for the postseason and in the Big 12 Tournament in a couple of weeks.

Four hits from Jared Thomas leads Texas baseball to a 10-7 win over UCF

Texas's bats found life in this game, posting a dozen hits and double-digit runs against a Big 12 foe for the first time since the series finale win over the Oklahoma Sooners on April 28.

Four Longhorns batters had multiple RBI days. Sophomore Jared Thomas led the way for the Longhorn bats with a game-high four hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Thomas gave the Longhorns an early lead in this game with two run-scoring hits in the second and the fourth innings.

Thomas also scored the eventual game-tying run on a base knock by Peyton Powell in the top of the sixth inning. That base-hit from Powell in the sixth scored two runs, including the eventual game-winner when Dee Kennedy crossed the plate.

Max Belyeu and Porter Brown put the nail in the coffin for the Longhorns, driving in two runs in the top of the eighth to extend their lead to three over UCF.

Lebarron Johnson Jr. had another rocky start on the mound, allowing four earned runs, three hits, and four walks in four innings in this game. The Texas bullpen came in clutch in the game's final two innings, shutting out the UCF bats when the Longhorns' lead was just one run.

Charlie Hurley notched his fifth win of the season while allowing two earned runs in 2.0 innings of work in relief of Andre Duplantier II in the middle innings. Gage Boehm shut things down for the Longhorns, getting his seventh save of the season with 2.2 shutout innings pitched.

Texas continues to play well down the stretch this season. The Longhorns were just one run away from pushing the game to extras in their only loss to UCF in this series, 5-4 on May 11. Texas's two wins were both by three runs, including a 6-3 victory in the series opener on May 10.

Pierce and the Longhorns close out the regular season with their final Big 12 series at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field next weekend, starting on May 16 against the Kansas Jayhawks.
