Texas Baseball: Transfer IF Luke Storm won't play in 2024
Texas baseball lost a key piece of its transfer class from the offseason on Jan. 31 with the announcement that former Duke Blue Devils infielder Luke Storm won't play baseball this season.
Storm posted on social media on Jan. 31 that his "journey playing baseball has come to an end due to personal reasons". He included the following statement with the post on his Twitter/X account announcing the end of his baseball career.
Texas baseball loses key IF Luke Storm before the start of the 2024 season
"It wasn't the path I envisioned, yet I'm profoundly thankful for the individuals it brought into my life. Immense gratitude to the coaches who trusted and believed in me, offering opportunities to live out my dream. Above all, heartfelt thanks to my parents, whose countless sacrifices paved the way for the person I've become today."
A Horns247 report notes that a UT spokesperson confirmed that Storm is ending his baseball career.
Storm was among the Longhorns' biggest transfer additions during the offseason. He was expected to be an immediate impact player for the Longhorns in 2024 at one of the corner infield spots.
The redshirt junior Storm played two seasons at Duke as a starting corner infielder. He started at first base for the Blue Devils in 2022 and third base in 2023. Storm ranked in the top three in runs batted in and home runs. And he led the team in OPS during the 2022 season.
Storm was a key contributor for a Duke team that won over 35 games for the first time since the 2018 season and made it to Super Regionals during the 2023 campaign.
The news of Texas losing Storm comes just a few weeks before the start of the 2024 regular season. Head coach David Pierce and the Longhorns open up the 2024 regular season against San Diego at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin on Feb. 16.
Texas also has its final preseason scrimmage on Feb. 3 in the Alumni Game at the Disch.
