The crown jewel of the 2024 signing class for Terry and the Longhorns staff is the elite five-star Dallas (TX) Link Academy shooting guard Tre Johnson. The No. 1 shooting guard in the nation and top prospect from Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking was the must-win recruitment of this cycle for Terry and staff.

Texas landed Johnson's commitment and got him to sign on the dotted line during the Early Signing Period, getting his pledge over the Baylor Bears and head coach Scott Drew.

The 6-foot-6 and 190-pound two-guard/wing will give this Longhorns' backcourt/wing rotation an immediate scoring jolt and increased floor spacing next season. Many consider Johnson to be the best and most natural scoring guard/wing in this recruiting class for 2024.

He's got a great handle of the basketball, good length, and as good of a shooting stroke from different levels of the floor in the offensive half-court as you'll see among the top prospects in this cycle.

Johnson scores the ball at an elite level, and he can get the ball in the bucket in multiple ways. He's always a threat to pull up from range. Johnson also has a decent first step to drive the lane and finish at the rim. He's a confident and efficient shooter from the mid-range and beyond the arc.

But Johnson is much more effective shooting off-the-dribble or coming off screens/getting open as a catch-and-shoot threat from deep to maximize his efficiency as a shooter on offense.

Another standout trait Johnson brings is his tough-shot-making. He has no problems pulling up over contesting defenders from mid-range and beyond the arc. Johnson does a great job of finishing through contact and getting to the charity stripe.

There is more room for improvement for Johnson on the defensive end of the floor. He does have the length, quickness, and basketball IQ to be an efficient wing rebounder and one-on-one defender. But he needs to display better awareness with his off-ball defense, as he occasionally gets lost chasing his man while cutting and following through screens.

Johnson fits the bill of a truly elite stud who will start on the wing right away for the Longhorns next season while upgrading the team's offense and scoring immediately.
