Texas Basketball: Early projected starting lineup in 2024-25
By Shane Black
Power Forward: Xavier Amos, Junior
Northern Illinois transfer Xavier Amos is the only transfer I included on this list. If Dillon Mitchell returns, this spot will be his. However, I doubt the Horns hold onto both Hunter and Mitchell, and I wanted to include at least one transfer for the fun of this exercise.
Amos is a 6-foot-8 rising junior who averaged 13.8 points and 1.3 blocks while shooting 38.5 percent from three last season at Northern Illinois. He is versatile on both ends of the floor, citing guys like Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Kevin Durant as players he models his game after.
Amos has already heard from some of the biggest programs in the country, including Texas, Kansas, Virginia, Illinois, and Xavier. Of the Horns, this is what Amos recently told On3:
"“They like my versatility and think I fit in with how they like for their forwards to move and do different things. With them, it is a lot about development. They see a high upside with me, they would put the ball in my hands and go make plays.”"
The rising junior has NBA aspirations and would fit well within a team full of athletes who will get up and down the floor.
Expect Amos to visit Texas in the coming weeks. If Coach Terry can land the big man's signature, it would be a terrific start to the 2024 portal cycle.
