The top-ranked recruit in the nation in the class of 2025, five-star Lubbock (TX) Monterey guard Aaliyah Chavez, included Texas women's basketball in the list of her top six schools that she dropped on social media on July 23.

Chavez also included the LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, UCLA Bruins, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Oklahoma Sooners among her top group of six schools. She dropped the Ohio State Buckeyes, USC Trojans, Tennessee Lady Vols, and Arizona Wildcats from her top list of schools in this round of finalist cuts after each school had previously made her top 10 during the spring.

"They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in. They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day too and they always have high energy."

Texas head coach Vic Schaefer has made Chavez's recruitment a top priority for him and his staff in the class of 2025. Chavez had nothing but great things to say about Schaefer and the Longhorns when she dropped her top six schools early this week, including Texas.

The Longhorns have multiple factors working in their favor in this recruitment for the No. 1 recruit in the nation in the 2025 class, according to On3 and ESPN rankings. First, Texas is among the schools that is the closest to home for the West Texas native Chavez, outside of the hometown Red Raiders.

Texas is also building some serious momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class after finding elevated postseason success in the NCAA Tournament last season. Schaefer and staff have already secured a commitment from one of the top guard recruits in the nation in the 2024 class, Saint Mary's (CA) five-star Jordan Lee.

The level of talent Chavez could be playing with on the Forty Acres, with the level Schaefer and staff have been recruiting at lately, could be among the best rosters in the nation in women's college hoops.
