Texas football sees junior DB Austin Jordan announce plans to enter the portal

Jordan has two years of eligibility remaining after spending the last two seasons at Texas.

Over his two years at Texas, Jordan took more than 400 live-game snaps on defense and special teams over 25 games. He registered 11 combined tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and two defensive stops since 2022.

Most of Jordan's live-game snaps with the Longhorns in the last two seasons were on special teams with the coverage and return units. He took over 350 snaps with the special teams unit in the last two seasons combined. Jordan registered three tackles with the coverage units.

On defense, Jordan took 109 defensive snaps over 10 games in 2022 and 2023. Jordan cross-trained at corner, nickel, and star at different points in camp in the last couple of years for the Longhorns.

The 6-foot and 205-pound Jordan signed with the Longhorns as a four-star defensive back recruit from Denton (TX) Ryan High School during the 2022 cycle. He was part of a 2022 Longhorns recruiting class that ranked top five nationally in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

Jordan ranked as the No. 256 prospect nationally in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 21 safety, and No. 41 from Texas.

Texas loses multiple DBs to the portal this week

After junior cornerback Terrance Brooks announced his plans to enter the portal on April 23, Jordan makes two experienced returning defensive backs to transfer from the Longhorns in as many days. Brooks is the first Longhorns player who started double-digit games last season to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Brooks and Jordan entering the portal after the conclusion of the spring game last weekend brings the Longhorns to 14 scholarship defensive backs. Texas is also down to 82 total scholarship players on the roster. Sarkisian and staff have room for three portal additions during the spring window to get the scholarship total to the limit of 85.
