Will Texas ultimately be the pick where 4-Star DL Brandon Brown stays, or will he flip to Oklahoma or LSU later this week?

Defensive line recruiting has been a hot topic of discussion for Texas football and Kenny Baker in the 2025 class of late. Texas suffered some major losses with defensive tackle recruiting, missing out on four-star defensive linemen Josiah Sharma to Oregon and Myron Charles to Florida State, late last week.

The Longhorns bounced back slightly with recruiting in the class of 2025 along the defensive front by landing four-star Houston (TX) Alief Hastings edge rusher Smith Orogbo on July 1.

Texas has another critical decision upcoming for one of the recruits along the defensive front in the 2025 class who is currently committed to the Longhorns. Four-star Melbourne (FL) Eau Gallie defensive lineman Brandon Brown has been committed to Texas since last December.

Despite him remaining committed to Texas in the 2025 class in the last few months during the spring and summer, Brown has taken visits and been in consistent communication with other schools on the recruiting trail. Brown reaffirmed his commitment to Texas coming out of his official visit to Austin in mid-June.

That said, Texas will continue to have to fight this week to retain Brown's commitment through the end of the summer and the fall until signing day. It sounds like Brown will have a final decision ready for his recruitment at some point later this week.

On Texas Football's Bobby Burton reported on July 2 on the OTF YouTube channel that Brown is expected to make his decision regarding whether he sticks with his commitment to Texas or flips elsewhere in the next few days. Specifically, Brown is reportedly expected to have his mind made up for his final decision between July 3 and July 5.

Texas's chances of retaining Brown's commitment don't sound too great at the moment. Burton also reported that the feeling surrounding Brown's recruitment lately is that he is favored to flip from Texas to the LSU Tigers when he announces his final decision later this week.

LSU, Texas, and the Oklahoma Sooners are the three schools still involved in Brown's decision at this point of his recruitment. He officially visited all three schools this summer, most recently taking a trip to Norman in late June.

The reason LSU is currently considered to be a probable favorite to flip Brown's commitment from Texas is his longstanding relationship with defensive line coach Bo Davis. When Brown announced for Texas last December, he committed to Davis as the Longhorns' defensive line coach.

But Davis and the Tigers have been putting immense pressure on Brown to flip his commitment from Texas to LSU since he took the job in Baton Rouge under Brian Kelly earlier this offseason.

We will continue to follow this recruitment for updates as we get closer to the final announcement for Brown's decision in the coming days this week.
