Texas Women's Basketball has been in the news recently after getting Laila Phelia out of the transfer portal. She will fill the void of losing Shaylee Gonzales to the WNBA Draft. However, it was announced this morning that Texas Longhorns Women's Basketball Head Coach Vic Schaefer must fill another void this summer.

Texas women's basketball loses F Amina Muhammad to the transfer portal

It was announced this morning that Sophomore forward Amina Muhammad entered the transfer portal. It's a shock to fans as she was a key piece off the bench for the Longhorns.

Muhammad had a lot of playing time at Texas with all the injuries during the season. She started 20 times throughout the season and led the team in offensive rebounds. She would have been a huge key player off the bench during SEC Conference play next season.

Schaefer will probably go after Oregon State Sophomore forward Raegan Beers in the transfer portal. She's a young forward who played at Oregon State last season and would replace Muhammad on the roster.

There are some other forwards that Schaefer could target as well. Beer's teammate Timea Gardiner is another forward the Longhorns could target. She won the PAC-12 Six Player of the Year award and hit 40% of her three-point shots last season. Another Pac-12 forward that they could target is Stanford Cardinals Junior forward Kiki Iriafen.

She was the second-best player on the Cardinals next to Cameron Brink last season. She averaged 11 rebounds a game. It will be interesting to see who the Longhorns go after to replace Muhammad.

All fans can do now is wish Muhammad all the best as she looks to advance her academic and athletic career at another college. The transfer portal is a big part of college athletics now, and teams must adapt to it to build their rosters every year.

Even the Longhorns Men's Basketball program had players enter the transfer portal this summer. This won't be the last time the Longhorns will have to replace players entering the transfer portal.
