After the conclusion of the 2023-24 college football season, the activity in the NCAA Transfer Portal picked up once again for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas hosted its first portal visitor of 2024 last weekend when the former Liberty Flames breakout redshirt junior wide receiver CJ Daniels made the trip to Austin on Jan. 7.

But as we always talk about on the site, the portal is a two-way street. There were some Longhorns players with starting experience who entered the transfer portal in the last week.

The difference between the players with starting experience that the Longhorns have lost in the last two portal cycles and what Texas lost before was the reasoning behind the roster moves. Texas is in a good spot to upgrade at the positions they need to make this team better heading into the next season.

Sarkisian and staff have done a nice job being diligent with their portal evaluations and the offers they hand out in the last 15 months or so. Texas has upgraded the roster with high-level and proven talent instead of just tossing out portal offers left and right to fill out the depth chart.

That seems to be the case again this offseason where the Longhorns are able to upgrade the roster at key positions of need. And a side effect of that seems to be some players with starting experience who don't want to get pushed down the depth chart looking for more playing time elsewhere via the portal.

Here are two Texas starters who are still available in the transfer portal early this offseason.
