Texas football has been pretty patient with its strategy evaluating and pursuing potential targets in the NCAA Transfer Portal in the December window so far. Texas has only targeted a handful of portal players in the last week or so since the transfer window opened on Dec. 4.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have already hosted one portal visitor on campus in the last week. The former UTSA Roadrunners redshirt sophomore edge rusher and this season's AAC sack leader, Trey Moore, visited Texas last weekend.

Texas is also scheduled to host the former Clemson Tigers junior safety Andrew Mukuba for a visit this week. The Longhorns are among the five programs Mukuba is visiting this week, including the USC Trojans, Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, and Oklahoma Sooners.

Texas football could target two Houston transfers at key positions of need

While Texas is currently scheduled to only have one portal visitor on campus late this week and this coming weekend, it wouldn't surprise me if more were added to the list soon. A few recent noteworthy portal entrants, along with this being the last weekend before the Early Signing Period (starting Dec. 20), means this is a big stretch of days on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff.

Texas already has over a dozen high school visitors from the 2024 class scheduled to be on campus this weekend. The portal should yield at least one or two more visitors for the Longhorns this weekend, too.

One possible source of portal visitors who could be added to the list is a couple of recent transfers from the Houston Cougars. Here's a look at two recent Houston transfer targets for the Longhorns in the portal.
