Texas Football: 2 Houston transfers UT is targeting in the portal
Matthew Golden, WR
The top-priority the Longhorns have been seeking in the portal at wide receiver officially surfaced on the transfer market on Dec. 12. Former Houston sophomore standout wide receiver Matthew Golden announced on his Twitter/X account on Dec. 12 that he is officially in the transfer portal.
This comes after Golden's intent to enter the transfer portal was first reported on Dec. 7. But he didn't officially enter the portal until roughly five days later.
Subsequent to Golden officially entering the portal late in the afternoon of Dec. 12, multiple industry experts picked him to commit to Texas.
Among the forecasts for Golden to commit to Texas out of the portal on Dec. 12 came from 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.
Another interesting nugget that emerged on social media after Golden entered the portal on Dec. 12 was a post on Twitter/X from sophomore Texas running back Jaydon Blue. Blue is Golden's former high school teammate at Klein Cain in the Houston area.
Blue was seemingly hinting at something with his post on Twitter/X roughly 20 minutes after Golden posted that he was officially in the transfer portal on Dec. 12.
Moreover, Golden to Texas makes sense on many levels. Texas needs an impact starter at the position as they are expected to lose all three starting wideouts to the NFL Draft next spring.
Sark and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson are looking to add multiple impact wideouts in the 2024 class via portal and high school recruiting. That's in addition to three recruits the Longhorns already have committed at wideout in the 2024 class, namely five-star Ryan Wingo.
Golden could be that impact wideout who can come in and start right away out of the field or slot for Sark and the Longhorns. He's an excellent fit in Sark's offense as a dangerous and elusive threat in space who can line up at multiple spots pre-snap.
Golden can also upgrade Texas's return game. He was a dangerous kick returner who took two back to the house this season, leading the FBS.
