Texas Football: 2 transfer targets visiting UT this weekend
CJ Daniels, WR
Texas is after a second wideout via the transfer portal this offseason after adding a commitment from Golden from Houston a few weeks ago.
The newest portal wideout target on the Longhorns' radar early this offseason is the former Liberty Flames redshirt junior CJ Daniels. Multiple reports have noted that Daniels was expected to make a visit to Texas this weekend (specifically on Jan. 7).
Daniels was confirmed to have made it to campus for a visit to Texas on Jan. 7. He is Texas's first portal visitor of the 2024 offseason.
Daniels was also expected to visit the Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks this weekend. He's got connections with Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze, as well as a few others on that coaching staff. Freeze was Daniels' head coach at Liberty a couple of years ago.
Oregon has also been very active in the transfer portal to reload at various positions on both sides of the ball since the December window opened on Dec. 4.
Texas is looking to add multiple impact players at receiver with two starters already having declared early for the 2024 NFL Draft in the last few days. Redshirt senior slot receiver Jordan Whittington and junior field receiver Xavier Worthy have already declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Junior wide receiver Adonai Mitchell also has a looming NFL Draft decision that is anticipated in the next week or so with the underclassmen deadline approaching on Jan. 15.
Daniels is among the best and most productive wideouts to appear in the portal in this transfer cycle. The breakout Liberty wide receiver ranks as the No. 4 portal wideout in the 247Sports Composite.
He is coming off the best season of his collegiate career, registering over 1,000 receiving yards and double-digit touchdown catches during the 2023 campaign. Daniels was the only Conference-USA wideout to register at least 1,000 receiving yards and double-digit TD catches this season.
