This is a big recruiting weekend for Texas football, as head coach Steve Sarkisian and staff are hosting over a dozen visitors on the 40. Texas has a good mix of visitors among NCAA Transfer Portal targets and important high school recruits/commitments in the 2024 class.

The primary focus of this weekend on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns is high school recruiting in the 2024 class. This is the last weekend before signing day on Dec. 20.

Texas football looking to add multiple commitments in the next few days

Texas is looking to put some of the finishing touches on the 2024 class before signing day next week. And most of the outstanding targets remaining in the 2024 class for the Longhorns are on campus for visits this weekend.

There are also a handful of Texas commits in the 2024 class on campus this weekend for visits before signing day. That's not to mention the 2024 early signees for the Longhorns who are already on campus and participating in bowl practice.

Here are three commitments the Longhorns could land this weekend between the portal and high school visitors.

Tyanthony Smith, LB (Texas A&M commit)

Texas's top priority at linebacker late in the 2024 cycle is the touted four-star Jasper (TX) product, and Texas A&M Aggies commit Tyanthony Smith.

Smith's recruitment had many twists and turns late this fall. He's had many visits scheduled to see Texas since early in the summer. But he never showed up on campus after he committed to Texas A&M in late June.

Texas kept its foot on the gas, trying to chip away at Smith's commitment to the Aggies since he gave his pledge to Texas A&M nearly six months ago.

When Texas A&M fired head coach Jimbo Fisher on Nov. 12, it looked like the window of opportunity opened for the Longhorns to push to flip Smith's commitment from the Aggies. And while there have still been some twists and turns in this recruitment in the last few weeks, it sounds like the Longhorns still have a great shot to flip Smith from the Aggies.

Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports reported on Dec. 16 that Smith is on campus for a visit to Texas this weekend. With Smith on campus for a visit right now, all the industry experts who have projected him to flip his commitment from Texas A&M to Texas heading into signing day next week could soon become a reality.

The very fact that Smith showed up on campus this weekend for a visit means Texas has a great shot to flip him from Texas A&M. The question is now more of when than if for the Longhorns to get Smith in the boat in the 2024 class before signing day.
