Texas Football: 3 Ex-Horns back in the transfer portal this offseason
Casey Thompson, QB
Per a report from Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports on Dec. 21, super senior Florida Atlantic Owls quarterback Casey Thompson re-entered the transfer portal after spending one season in Boca Raton, FL. This is the third time Thompson has entered the portal. He's now spent time with the Owls, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Texas. He started multiple games at Texas, Nebraska, and FAU in the last three seasons.
Thompson landed at Florida Atlantic last offseason, joining his former head coach at Texas, Tom Herman, with the Owls.
In his one season at Florida Atlantic, Thompson had a limited impact due to suffering an unfortunate season-ending ACL tear in mid-September after just three starts.
Before transferring to FAU, Thompson played one season for the Cornhuskers last fall. Thompson started 10 games at Nebraska during the 2022 season. He registered nearly 2,500 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and five rushing touchdowns at Nebraska last fall.
Thompson's collegiate career started with the Longhorns when he took a redshirt during the 2018 season as a true freshman. He started 10 games for the Longhorns during the 2021 season after quarterback Hudson Card was pulled on the road against Arkansas in Week 2.
In his four years at Texas, Thompson registered 2,422 passing yards, 36 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Thompson is entering his seventh year in college after surfacing in the transfer portal a few days ago. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
