Texas Football: 3 key 2025 recruits trending UT in February
Kelshaun Johnson, WR
Texas had an insane haul of talent in the receiving corps via high school recruiting and the transfer portal in the 2024 class, which included multiple highly touted blue-chip recruits at the position.
The in-state crop of wide receivers in the 2025 class looks to be another strong group for the Longhorns and WR coach Chris Jackson on the recruiting trail. Texas is in on many of the recruitments for the top wide receiver prospects in-state in the 2025 class.
One key in-state wide receiver recruit Texas has made some noise with recently is the touted Hitchcock (TX) four-star Kelshaun Johnson. The speedy 5-foot-11 and 160-pound wideout from Southeast Texas told Horns247 that UT "feels like home" after his Junior Day visit on Jan. 20.
Texas has done a great job in this recruitment making Johnson feel like he is a priority for them in the 2025 class. He said he's felt comfortable every time he's been on campus in the last year or so.
Johnson has visited Texas multiple times since the beginning of last offseason.
Sarkisian, Jackson, and safeties coach Blake Gideon have all successfully built good relationships with Johnson over the last year. The job Texas's staff has done connecting with Johnson and making him feel like a priority has them in the driver seat in this recruitment early this offseason.
The Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Oregon Ducks are also making spirited pushes in this recruitment entering the spring, but the Longhorns have built a pretty big lead with Johnson. It would take a sizable momentum swing in this recruitment to knock Texas out of pole position anytime soon.
