Texas Football: 3 NFL Draft landing spots for Adonai Mitchell
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers sent what would be the first overall pick in the 2024 draft to the Chicago Bears in the trade that brought them former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young in the 2023 draft.
While Young is still the quarterback of the future for the Panthers, the front office has plenty of work to do to get the right pieces around him to succeed in Carolina. New head coach Dave Canales has the task of getting the right pieces in place in the supporting cast for Young to make sure he's able to develop and succeed in his second year in the league in 2024.
The two spots Canales and the Panthers need to start to build a formidable supporting cast on offense for Young are the offensive line and wideout. Young was sacked 62 times last season, second-most of any starting NFL quarterback.
And the Panthers' only 1,000-yard receiver in 2023 was an aging 33-year-old Adam Thielen.
Due to the trade with the Bears, the Panthers don't have a first round pick this year. But they do have the first pick on Day 2 of the draft. With that pick, they could get Young a young receiving weapon in Mitchell that could help form the future core of this offense at the skill positions.
Mitchell would also give Young and the Panthers a big receiver he can get the ball to on the outside when the pocket is breaking down. His large catch radius and contested catch ability would be valuable if the Panthers can't right the ship immediately along the offensive line this year.
