The most recent portal visitor the Longhorns hosted on campus in Austin was last weekend when the former Liberty Flames redshirt junior breakout wide receiver CJ Daniels made the trip. Daniels is the first portal wide receiver to visit Texas since Golden made the trip last month.

Inside Texas reported this week (paid content) that Daniels visited the Longhorns on Jan. 7. The Texas coaches reportedly showed him around campus and the facilities. He also went to dinner with some of the Texas coaches on the night of his visit to Austin.

While Texas certainly looks like it is prioritizing this portal recruitment for Daniels, it is clear that the staff is still evaluating multiple options among transfer wide receivers early this offseason. Texas offered Bolden on the same day that Daniels took his visit to Austin on Jan. 7.

And the Longhorns have at least kicked on the tires on multiple other transfer wide receivers this week.

Yet, the fact of the matter is that Texas is interested in Daniels and he fills a specific need for this receiving corps. The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound Daniels has the frame and physical profile to play boundary receiver at Texas. And he was a 1,000-yard receiver at Liberty last season.

Daniels ranked among the best receivers in the Group of Five during the 2023 season. He graded out among the three best receivers in the Group of Five during his breakout junior campaign at Liberty in the season that just wrapped up.
