After the first few hours of signing day, there was some drama that took place for the 2024 Texas football recruiting class. Texas saw the Mizzou Tigers and Nebraska Cornhuskers make a late run on the recruiting trail at the elite five-star St. Louis University (MO) wide receiver commit Ryan Wingo on Dec. 19 and 20.

Texas was ultimately able to hold off Mizzou and get Wingo to sign on the dotted line late in the morning of Dec. 20.

Longshot flips for Texas football to pull off during the Early Signing Period

The Alabama Crimson Tide also successfully pulled off the signing day flip of four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete commit Aeryn Hampton from Texas on Dec. 20. Hampton flipped his commitment from Texas and signed with Alabama on the first day of the Early Signing Period.

After signing Wingo, the Longhorns have 21 signees from the high school ranks in the 2024 class on the first signing day. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, Texas has the fifth ranked 2024 recruiting class ranking nationally and the third best in the SEC behind the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide.

But the action isn't done yet for Texas on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class during the Early Signing Period this week. Texas is still expected to add at least one more flip from the high school ranks in the 2024 class before the conclusion of this signing period.

Here's a look at three surprise flips the Longhorns can get in the 2024 class during the Early Signing Period.

Dealyn Evans, DL (Texas A&M commit)

Texas has made a late run at the highly touted four-star Longview (TX) Pine Tree defensive lineman and Texas A&M Aggies commit Dealyn Evans in the last week. After Texas A&M lost defensive line coach Elijah Robinson to the Syracuse Orange earlier this month, Evans (among a handful of other Aggies commits) considered some other options on the recruiting trail before signing day.

Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners were two of the schools who communicated with Evans late in the cycle heading into signing day. Gerry Hamilton of On3 reported on Dec. 20 that Evans communicated with Texas on Tuesday. But it sounds like it is a possibility that Evans signs with the Aggies on Dec. 20.

If Evans continues to look at other options and decides not to sign with Texas A&M on Dec. 20, Texas will remain in pursuit on the recruiting trail.

Evans is probably the least likely on this list to wind up flipping his commitment to Texas during the Early Signing Period at this point of the cycle. But it is still a possibility that he considers Texas if he doesn't sign on the dotted line with the Aggies on dec. 20.
