Xavier Filsaime, S (Florida commit)

Among the priority recruits that the Longhorns have looked the best for as a flip candidate late in the cycle is the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime. Texas can close out this defensive back class on a high note if it flips Filsaime from the Gators after getting a commitment from the elite Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black on Dec. 13.

Texas has looked very good in this recruitment in the last few weeks. As the Florida class has fallen apart in the last month or so, and with the Gators firing defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, Texas has increasingly looked like the move for Filsaime before signing day.

Filsaime showed up for his multi-day official visit to Texas on Dec. 15. He is expected to be on campus at least through the afternoon of Dec. 17.

A report from Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods on Dec. 16 (subscriber content) noted that the only potential hiccup for the Longhorns this week with Filsaime was the in-home that head coach Billy Napier and the Gators took with him a few days ago.

But there hasn't been much noise coming from the Florida side regarding increased confidence that they can hang onto Filsaime's commitment through signing day next week. The writing was on the wall before Filsaime arrived on campus this weekend that he was trending to flip from Florida to Texas.

It feels very likely that Texas can seal the deal with Filsaime in the next couple of days before the Early Signing Period begins on Dec. 20.
