Tyanthony Smith, LB (Texas A&M commit)

The top flip target at linebacker late in the cycle for the Longhorns in the 2024 class is the touted four-star Jasper (TX) product and Texas A&M commit Tyanthony Smith. In one of the crazier recruitments the Longhorns have been involved in the last few months, it appears that things could finally be trending in Texas's favor with Smith heading into signing day next week.

Texas has made Smith a top in-state linebacker priority in the 2024 class since early last offseason. He was one of the two in-state linebackers in the 2024 class that co-DC/linebackers coach Jeff Choate and the Longhorns would take a commitment from this fall, with the other being the No. 1 linebacker recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite, five-star Georgia commit Justin Williams.

There was some uncertainty heading into this weekend regarding whether Smith would show up on campus for the official visit to Texas. A couple of reports earlier this week originally broke the news that Smith intended to visit Texas this weekend. But there were conflicting reports regarding the status of Smith's visit to Texas in the last few days.

Multiple reports this weekend have confirmed that Smith showed up for the official visit, which means that there is a good chance he ends up flipping from Texas A&M to Texas by the time signing day arrives next week.

It's noteworthy that Smith is reportedly likely to wait to announce anything publicly regarding the status of his commitment to the Aggies until the first day of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 20. But this essentially feels like a recruitment that is trending firmly in Texas's favor as of this weekend.
