Only a handful of targets remain on the trail for Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class heading into the late signing period in February. Among the remaining priority recruits for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian in the 2024 class after the Early Signing Period last week are key positions of need, namely defensive line and wide receiver.

The top priority remaining at wide receiver in the 2024 class for the Longhorns heading into late signing day in February is the elite five-star Saraland (AL) product and Alabama Crimson Tide commit Ryan Williams.

5-Star Alabama WR commit Ryan Williams is firmly on Texas football's radar this winter

After reclassifying down from the 2025 class to 2024, Williams now ranks among the nation's top wide receiver recruits for this cycle. He is the top-ranked unsigned wide receiver recruit in the 2024 class in the On3 Industry Ranking and 247Sports Composite after reclassifying a few weeks ago.

On3 reported on Dec. 29 that Williams has scheduled three official visits before the late signing period in February. He will officially visit Alabama first on Jan. 20. And then he has official visits scheduled to see Texas (Jan. 27) and the Auburn Tigers (Feb. 3) the following two weeks after the Alabama trip.

Williams set for his first visit to Austin next month

This is obviously huge news for Sark, wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail to get Williams scheduled for an official visit. Texas has worked to chip away at Williams' commitment to the Tide since his high school teammate, four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey, pledged to Texas in the 2025 class early in the summer.

Now that the Longhorns have Williams on the books for an official visit before signing day, they will have a legitimate shot to swing away at flipping his commitment from Alabama.

Auburn also remains a legitimate threat in this recruitment as there is tremendous pressure for Williams to stay in-state in Alabama. Williams has visited Auburn multiple times for gamedays this fall (three times).

Williams' teammate remains committed to Texas in the 2025 class

Despite pressure coming from Auburn to flip his commitment late this fall, Lacey remains committed to Texas in the 2025 class. He has been in Williams' ear in the last few months, working to get him to consider Texas more in his recruitment.
