Texas Football: DB Jahdae Barron announces return for 2024
Texas football got great news from senior defensive back Jahdae Barron as he announced on Jan. 13 that he will return to school for the final year of his eligibility in 2024. Barron announced on Instagram on the evening of Jan. 13 that he will return to Texas for one more season in 2024.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff have rejoiced with the news they've received from the last two players they were waiting on to announce their NFL Draft decisions this week. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers and Barron both announced this week that they will return to school for the 2024 season.
Texas football DB Jahdae Barron's is a major boost to the secondary in 2024
Barron was the final decision the Texas staff was waiting on before the underclassman deadline on Jan. 15. His return to Texas for the 2024 season is a massive boost to this secondary entering its first year of competition in the SEC.
Barron was arguably Texas's best cover DB in the last couple of seasons. No Texas defensive back has played more coverage snaps since the start of the 2022 campaign than Barron. He can play essentially every position in the secondary while thriving in one-on-one coverage and contesting space.
Barron will look to boost his NFL Draft stock for 2025
It was reported earlier this weekend that Barron was considering returning to school for another season to boost his draft stock for 2025 after the feedback he got from the NFL. If Barron has another season at DB for Texas as he had in the last couple of years in 2024, he should be viewed as a middle-round pick at the latest in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Texas's secondary now looks very formidable entering the SEC for the upcoming season. Barron and the former Clemson Tigers junior transfer safety Andrew Mukuba highlight a group that will be very talented, versatile, and decently experienced heading into the 2024 campaign.
