Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian have taken a patient approach to recruiting the NCAA Transfer Portal during the December window. Texas has signed three commitments via the transfer portal this month, the most recent of which was the former UTSA Roadrunners redshirt sophomore edge rusher Trey Moore.

Sark and staff have also added portal signees in the former Houston Cougars sophomore wide receiver Matthew Golden and Clemson Tigers junior safety Andrew Mukuba.

Texas football finding a new portal WR target?

While the Longhorns staff is currently focused on the College Football Playoff Semifinals game at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 against the No. 2 Washington Huskies, they're still keeping an eye on the portal.

Texas has a few key positions of need that the staff is expected to address via the transfer portal and/or high school recruiting in the 2024 class heading into the late signing period in February.

Among the positions of need the Longhorns are still looking to address heading into the offseason are defensive line, wide receiver, and potentially tight end. And it appears that the Longhorns could've found their next portal target at wide receiver heading into the offseason.

A report from Hank South of Horns247 on Dec. 31 (paid content) indicates that Texas is expected to target the former Ohio State Buckeyes true freshman wide receiver Bryson Rodgers once he officially enters the transfer portal.

It was reported by On3 on Dec. 31 that Rodgers plans to enter the transfer portal. But it has not been reported that Rodgers' name has officially shown up in the transfer portal yet.

Texas showed interest in Rodgers during his recruitment as a four-star wide receiver prospect from Zephyrhills (FL) Wiregrass Ranch High School in the 2023 class. The Longhorns offered Rodgers late in the spring of 2022, which came just a few weeks after he committed to Ohio State.

Rodgers appeared in two games for the Buckeyes during his true freshman campaign this fall. He took six offensive snaps over two games this season. Rodgers played three snaps against the Purdue Boilermakers in Week 7 and against the Michigan State Spartans in Week 11.

Texas still looking to add to a touted 2024 wide receiver class via the portal

Sark, wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns have already amassed a talented and deep group of receivers in the 2024 class since the Early Signing Period a couple of weeks ago.

Texas added four wide receiver signees via high school recruiting in the 2024 class. Those four high school wide receiver signees for the Longhorns in the 2024 class are Calabasas (CA) four-star Aaron Butler, St. Louis University (MO) five-star Ryan Wingo, Spring Branch (TX) Smithson Valley four-star Freddie Dubose, and Lucas (TX) Lovejoy four-star Parker Livingstone.

Golden is Texas's fifth wide receiver signee in the 2024 class, and the lone portal commit at the position.
