A little over a week into preseason camp for Texas football, the excitement is palpable on the Forty Acres for the start of the inaugural season in the SEC in 2024. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will put on the full pads in practice today as the start of the upcoming 2024 regular season is just 25 days away.

Texas football is under one month away from kicking off their inaugural SEC season in 2024

Sarkisian has a top-five-ranked team in the preseason Coaches Poll released yesterday, entering the 2024 season. Texas has ample momentum entering this fall, coming off a Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the four-team College Football Playoff last season.

Texas has an experienced and talented two-deep on both sides of the ball, which includes over half of their starters returning and another impressive transfer portal haul at key position groups. Led by third-year starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns are expected to be a Playoff and SEC title contender this upcoming season for 2024.

Here's a look at the game-by-game predictions for the Longhorns for the 2024 season.

Game 1: vs. Colorado State (Aug. 31)

Location: Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (Austin, TX)

Texas opens the regular season at home at DKR in Austin on Aug. 31 against the Colorado State Rams from the Mountain West Conference. Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell will have his hands full while trying to contain this explosive and deep Texas offense in the season opener in late August.

This matchup against an inferior Colorado State squad is an opportunity for Texas to build momentum and confidence entering the marquee Week 2 matchup against the defending National Champion Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.

Texas rides a four-game winning streak in home regular season openers, all that have been won by at least a margin of 20 points. I see that streak continuing in the opener against Colorado State for this upcoming regular season in 2024.

Prediction: Texas-48, Colorado State-17

Record: 1-0 (0-0 SEC)
