Texas football game-by-game predictions for the 2024 season
Game 12: @ Texas A&M (Nov. 30)
Location: Kyle Field (College Station, TX)
After the rivalry was dormant for over a decade since Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC in the early 2010s, the Longhorns and Aggies will meet on the gridiron for the first time since 2011 this fall.
Texas and Texas A&M fans have been eagerly awaiting the ability to gain bragging rights for an actual win over their hated opponent on the field for a long time. The fans at Kyle Field are going to make this one of the rowdiest atmospheres you could witness at any college football rivalry game this season.
The script has been flipped on Texas A&M entering the 2024 season with a new head coach who's looking to do what Jimbo Fisher couldn't over the last half decade or so, effectively develop talent and convert on all the top-tier recruiting classes with success on the field and the win column. Mike Elko did a great job of player development and utilizing the transfer portal to fill key positional needs on the roster with proven players at Duke.
Elko has a tall task of getting a Texas A&M roster that returns fewer than half of its starters on both sides of the ball ready to meet expectations and win these big rivalries coming to the SEC this fall, with Texas and Oklahoma potentially in future seasons.
Texas's advantages in offensive firepower and returning experience on the defensive side of the ball won't be a factor if they can't execute in the bright spotlight of this renewed A&M rivalry at Kyle Field this season. In the end, though, I think the veteran experience and calm and collected nature of Ewers' presence, along with Texas's depth on defense, get them over the hump to beat A&M for the first time since they were Big 12 foes in 2011.
