Texas Football: Position-by-position grades for UT's 2024 signing class

Texas football signed all 22 of its commitments among high school recruits in the 2024 class, and both its portal commitments, on the first signing day on Dec. 20. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian signed their third straight top-five ranked class nationally.

This class was chocked full of talented prospects for the Longhorns. Texas's signing class boasts the highest blue-chip ratio of any 2024 class in the nation in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Sark and the Longhorns filled multiple key positions of need with impact prospects in the 2024 class, including defensive line, edge rusher, defensive back, offensive tackle, and wide receiver. Four of those five position groups saw Texas sign a five-star prospect at in this class.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2024 Texas recruiting class ranks fifth nationally and third in the SEC behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

Here's a look at the position-by-position grades for the Longhorns 2024 signing class among high school recruits.

Quarterback

Trey Owens (3-Star, Cypress (TX) Cy-Fair)

Texas signed one quarterback in the 2024 class, the big-arm Cypress (TX) Cy-Fair three-star Trey Owens. Sark, QB coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns are in an in-between class between two elite quarterback talents with true freshman Arch Manning and the 2025 four-star Saraland (AL) signal-caller KJ Lacey.

Owens is a long-term developmental quarterback with major upside and a very strong arm. He can make all the throws from the pocket. Owens needs to develop his precision, timing, and footwork in the pocket.
