The highest-priority portal recruitment the Longhorns are involved in right now is for the former redshirt sophomore UTSA Roadrunners edge rusher and the 2023 AAC Defensive Player of the Year Trey Moore. Texas is considered the favorite in the race to land a commitment from Moore via the transfer portal in the midst of the Early Signing Period this week.

Texas and Alabama are the top two schools in consideration for Moore after he visited both schools in the last couple of weeks. He was Texas's first portal visitor of the December transfer window, from Dec. 8-10. Moore most recently visited Alabama last week.

He was also set to visit the Ohio State Buckeyes and defensive line coach Larry Johnson, but made the last-minute switch to visit Alabama instead last week.

Texas is looking to upgrade the pass rush by getting an impact player via the transfer portal at the EDGE position. Moore fits the buck position naturally in Pete Kwiatwkoski's defense, as an extremely productive pass rusher and high-level athlete contesting space in run defense.

It was expected that Moore would make an announcement this week. There is still a good chance we got a decision from him in the next couple of days. If that is the case, Texas would likely be getting its third portal commitment of the December window.
