Texas's top defensive back priority in the portal is the former Clemson Tigers junior safety Andrew Mukuba. The No. 1 transfer safety in the 247Sports Composite arrived in Austin for his official visit this weekend on Dec. 15.

Texas entered the official visit as the heavy favorite to land Mukuba's commitment from the portal. Heading into the weekend, it sounded like Texas was in a great spot to seal the deal in this portal recruitment.

The Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Ole Miss Rebels, and USC Trojans were the schools scheduled to get visits from Mukuba earlier this week. But the noise surrounding Oklahoma and Oregon in this portal recruitment has quieted down in the last few days. It also doesn't sound like Mukuba made the trips to Ole Miss and USC this week either.

The writing is on the wall that Texas is very close to locking up a commitment in the portal from Mukuba. He's got the relationships on the Texas coaching staff, and UT is very close to home for the Austin, TX, native and LBJ High School product Mukuba.

I'd expect Texas to be able to land Mukuba's commitment potentially before the end of this weekend. If not, an announcement should come within the next few days from Mukuba.
