Texas Football: Terrance Brooks looks 'different' this offseason
A few weeks ago, Texas football got started in the winter strength and conditioning program with S&C coach Torre Becton. Winter workouts are an important time not only for the new enrollees on campus to get settled in and get their bodies right for the start of spring ball but also for returning players to continue to get in better shape and improve their game.
Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian has quite a few returning starters who could take their game to the next level this offseason. One particular player on the defensive side of the ball that the Longhorns need a big campaign from is rising junior cornerback Terrance Brooks.

The All-Big 12 Honorable Mention cornerback Brooks is the only returning starter the Longhorns have at the position for the upcoming 2024 season. Thus, he will be looked to as a leading voice in the cornerback room as the Longhorns prepare for the first year of competition in the SEC in 2024.
And it sounds like Brooks has attacked the offseason with the proper mindset to be a tone-setter at cornerback for the Longhorns in 2024. Orangebloods reported on Feb. 11 (subscriber content) that Brooks is "attacking the offseason in a different way" this year compared to 2023.
Brooks is reportedly showing more maturity as he's "transforming" his day-to-day routine early this offseason.
Texas's secondary counting on Brooks to make a big leap in 2024
Brooks has shown flashes of becoming one of the more effective cover corners in the Power Five in the last couple of years.
But he's also had his fair share of inconsistencies since he was a first-year full-time starter for the Longhorns last fall. He was picked on in the Big 12 Championship Game and especially in the College Football Playoff semifinal game against No. 2 Washington.
As the lone returning full-time starter in the secondary for the Longhorns from last year's squad in 2024, Brooks is a key voice among the upperclassmen leaders on defense this offseason.
Texas has plenty of talent, but much of it is very raw among the true freshmen early enrollees, in the cornerback room entering the spring. Brooks must also be a guiding voice to help the transition of all these talented young corners for the Longhorns as they enter the SEC this fall.
