Multiple outlets have reported (including Horns247) on Dec. 14 that the former Houston Cougars sophomore standout wide receiver transfer Matthew Golden is expected to visit Texas football late this week. On3's Gerry Hamilton also confirmed the report that Golden will visit Texas on Dec. 14.

This news regarding Golden's visit plans comes after he announced on his Twitter/X account on Dec. 12 that he had officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Texas football has found its top portal priority at WR in Matthew Golden

It was initially reported on Dec. 7 that Golden intended to enter the transfer portal.

Once Golden was officially in the transfer portal earlier this week, forecasts from many industry experts starting pouring in, projecting his commitment to Texas in the portal.

Golden is reportedly the top priority among portal wide receivers for head coach Steve Sarkisian, wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns. And now that Texas is expected to get him to campus for a visit on Dec. 14, the Longhorns will try to seal the deal in this portal recruitment.

Texas has a need in the portal to add impact players in the receiving corps, with all three starting wideouts for the Longhorns expected to enter the NFL Draft next spring. Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns do return multiple talented underclassmen at receiver, namely true freshman Johntay Cook II.

But Texas lacks proven impact players at the receiver position among what is expected to return for this group in 2024.

Golden would be a tremendous fit in Sark's offense. He could also impact Texas on special teams, as he was an electric return man for Houston in the last two seasons. Golden led the FBS with two kicks returned for touchdowns this fall.

The elusive and speedy 6-foot and 190-pound receiver is extremely dangerous when he gets the ball in space. He's a big play threat whenver he touches the ball. And Golden can get over the top as a deep threat in the passing game.

Given Golden's speed, elusiveness, and deep-threat ability, it makes sense that he is a top priority at the position for Sark and the Longhorns in the portal in the December window.

We will continue to follow this portal recruitment for updates as they come out in the coming hours and days late this week.
