Perryman including the following note in his announcement that he is entering the portal this offseason on his IG account.
"Longhorn Nation,
Playing basketball for The University of Texas has been a lifelong dream come true. I’m beyond thankful for everyone who has helped me along the way, from professors, GA’s, staff, coaches and managers. I have created friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. To my teammates, I sincerely want to thank you for being by my side for the past 3 years. We’ve been through a lot, and I will value our bond forever. This spring, I am going to graduate from Texas with a major in Sports Management and a minor in Business, an achievement that means the world to myself and my family. After talking with my coaches and family, I have decided it is in my best interest to enter the portal as a graduate transfer and decide what is next in my career. I will forever be indebted for my time here and I am a Longhorn for Life!!!
Hook’Em, Gavin Perryman

During the 2023-24 season, Perryman appeared in seven games. He most recently appeared in Texas's 94-80 win at home in the regular season finale over the rival Oklahoma Sooners on March 9.

He picked Texas over offers from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and Army Black Knights and he was recruited to the Longhorns by former UT head coach Chris Beard and assistant Ulric Maligi.
The third-year guard who stands at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds is the son of Texas Ex guard Brandy Perryman, who played for the Longhorns from 1994-1998.
Perryman will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The spring window for the transfer portal opened on March 18. Underclassmen will have 45 days during this spring window to enter the transfer portal early this offseason.
