After a statement win over the defending National Champion and No. 10 ranked Michigan Wolverines at the Big House, No. 2 Texas football (2-0, 0-0 SEC) returns home to DKR for a contest against in-state foe UTSA (1-1, 0-0 AAC) in Week 3.

Texas handily defeated Michigan in an impressive performance on both sides of the ball in Ann Arbor last weekend, to the tune of a 31-12 victory for head coach Steve Sarkisian's squad.

Redshirt junior star quarterback Quinn Ewers methodically picked apart Michigan's secondary to jump out to a comfortable three-score lead by halftime over the weekend in Ann Arbor. And the Longhorns never looked back, maintaining a comfortable double-digit lead to close out the win over Michigan in the second half.

Ewers and the Longhorns have proven their status as a national title contender this season, winning their first two games by a combined margin of over 70 points. In the season's first two weeks, the Longhorns defense has only allowed 12 points (six points allowed per game).

Texas's matchup against UTSA and head coach Jeff Traylor has a much different outlook than it did when these two teams first met on the gridiron as FBS foes at DKR in 2022. UTSA gave the Longhorns a good challenge from a quality G5 in-state opponent a couple of years ago during non-conference play, resulting in a 41-20 win for Texas.

Despite the close contest against UTSA two years ago, the Longhorns are a big favorite in the opening betting odds for the Week 3 matchup between these two squads this upcoming weekend for non-conference play.

Here’s a look at the opening betting odds for the non-conference matchup in Week 3 between No. 2 Texas and UTSA at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX, on Sep. 14 at 6 p.m. CT.

Texas football vs. UTSA: Opening odds for Week 3

Texas opens up as a 33.5-point favorite against UTSA in Week 3 (per Caesers Sportsbook). The over/under is set at 53.5 points.

The Longhorns are also a heavy favorite (-20000) in the opening moneyline over UTSA (+4000).

Texas has easily covered the pre-game spread in the past two weeks. Texas covered the 6.5-point pregame spread with a 19-point victory over Michigan in Week 2 (per TeamRankings).

UTSA struggled to cover the spread in the season's first two weeks. It missed covering the spread in a Week 1 14-point win over FCS Kennesaw State. The Roadrunners were -37 compared to the Week 2 pregame spread as a two-point underdog in a blowout 49-10 loss to Texas State.

Ewers the Heisman favorite in multiple sportsbooks

After leading the Longhorns to a big victory on the road over a top-10-ranked team and the defending champs, Michigan, Ewers is being listed by many major Vegas sportsbooks as the Heisman favorite in Week 3.

Ewers finished up with nearly 250 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and no interceptions in a methodical performance against a stout Michigan defense in Week 2.
