Not only do Sarkisian and the Longhorns have a potential Heisman contender returning at quarterback in 2024, but they also have multiple blue-chip talents behind him on the QB depth chart.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning is the next in line to be the starting quarterback once Ewers enters the NFL Draft, more than likely after the 2024 season. Arch will back up Ewers this season, meaning he is only one snap away from being the guy leading the offense for the Longhorns.
True freshman quarterback Trey Owens also has real upside regarding his arm talent. Owens looked good during the spring game, throwing for over 200 yards and multiple touchdowns, including the game-winner late in the fourth quarter to stellar true freshman wide receiver Ryan Wingo.
On3 is high on the Longhorns' quarterback situation heading into the upcoming 2024 season. Jesse Simonton of On3 ranked Texas's quarterback room as the best in the nation in their unit rankings for 2024.
This piece from On3 said that Sarkisian is "blessed with the best quarterback situation in America in 2024". It notes that Ewers could be a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while giving nods to what talented guys like Arch and Owens bring to this QB room in Austin.
