Texas receives a first-place vote in preseason Coaches Poll

The preseason Coaches Poll ranked Texas among the two best SEC teams for the 2024 campaign.

Texas football was ranked No. 4 in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday morning (Aug. 5). Texas received one first-place vote in the preseason Coaches Poll.

Preseason 2024 Coaches Poll ranks Texas football in the top five for the first time in over a decade

This is the first time the Longhorns have received a first-place vote in the preseason Coaches Poll since 2009. Texas made it to the BCS National Championship Game against the Alabama Crimson Tide the last time it received a first-place vote in the preseason Coaches Poll.

The Georgia Bulldogs rang in with the top spot in the Coaches Poll, with 46 first-place votes. Behind Georgia in the second spot is the Ohio State Buckeyes, with seven first-place votes.

The No. 3 Oregon Ducks rounded out the top three teams ahead of the Longhorns in this preseason poll.

Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and the Michigan Wolverines were the only four teams to receive any first-place votes. Texas and Michigan both received one vote each.

The SEC had the most top-five teams in the preseason Coaches Poll. Alabama joined Texas and Georgia among the top five teams from the SEC. The No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels add to the list of top-ranked SEC teams in the preseason Coaches Poll, making it four of the top six from that conference.

Texas has four opponents on its regular season schedule that are ranked in the preseason Coaches Poll. The No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners and No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies join Georgia and Michigan among the ranked foes the Longhorns face this upcoming regular season.
